A DISCUSSION OF COLUM MCCANN’S TRANSATLANTIC AND
AN OPPORTUNITY TO MEET OTHER LAS VEGAS READERS
Join us for our October Book Club meeting where we'll be discussing Colum McCann’s novel TransAtlantic. This ambitious book weaves between the historical and the almost-historical, characters real and imaginary. Frederick Douglass lands in Ireland in 1845 and discovers a famine; a century-and-a-half later, an American senator makes the same journey to engage in Northern Ireland peace talks. Between them, the tale of four generations of an Irish matriarchal clan. McCann’s prose is poetic and uncanny, but also fresh and accessible. He will be appearing as the closing-keynote speaker for the Vegas Valley Book Festival on October 17th.
An hour-long group discussion will be followed by an informal reception. Attendees are expected to have read the book in advance.
Copies of TransAtlantic can be purchased in paperback at The Writer's Block Book Shop. To register for the Book Club, complete this form or call 702-550-6399.
