A book discussion paired with a whiskey.
In August, attendees will discuss Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins. In this debut novel, Watkins imagines Southern California as transformed into a blighted, post-drought wasteland—its residents evacuated to internment camps or sprawled lawlessly throughout the landscape. Luz and Ray are two such squatters, eking out an an existence in an abandoned Laurel Canyon mansion. But after they cross paths with a mysterious child, they head east: navigating various dangers, both human and natural.
The discussion will be complemented by a bourbon selected and provided by The Whiskey Attic. Attendees are expected to have read the book in advance.
Copies of Gold Fame Citrus can be purchased in hardcover at The Writer’s Block Book Shop.
